Most people think Indian coffee means Coorg or Chikmagalur. We think differently.
At The Brown Orange Roastery, we've always believed that the most exciting coffee isn't always where the crowd is looking. That's why we source from India's non-traditional coffee regions — places where the crop is new, the farmers are pioneering, and the flavours are unlike anything the mainstream market has seen.
Why Non-Traditional Regions?
India's coffee map has long been defined by the hills of Karnataka and Kerala. But a quiet revolution is happening further east — in the forests of Meghalaya, the river valleys of Assam, and the tribal highlands of Odisha. These regions aren't new to agriculture. They're new to specialty coffee. And that newness is exactly what makes them extraordinary.
Lower competition. Untouched microclimates. Farmers who are learning the craft with precision and passion. The result? Coffees that are expressive, traceable, and deeply unique.
Our Special Lots
Odisha — The Yellow Honey
From the tribal highlands of Odisha, our SL-9 AA Grade Yellow Honey lot is one of our most talked-about coffees. Grown at 1,200 MASL, it carries vivid tasting notes of raw mango, fig, and white wine — a cup that builds slowly and lingers long. Odisha coffee is still finding its identity, and we're proud to be part of that story.
Meghalaya — The Cloud Estate
Nestled in the clouds of Northeast India, Meghalaya's coffee grows in conditions unlike anywhere else in the country — high humidity, dense forest cover, and a cool climate that slows cherry maturation and deepens flavour complexity. Our upcoming Meghalaya lot is a study in terroir.
Assam — The Valley Lot
Known globally for its tea, Assam is quietly producing some of India's most interesting experimental coffee. Our Assam sourcing focuses on small farms transitioning into specialty, bringing a bold, full-bodied character shaped by the region's rich alluvial soil and tropical climate.
What Makes B.O.R Different
We don't source coffee because it's convenient. We source it because it tells a story worth telling. Every lot we bring to Nagpur has a farmer behind it, a process that was chosen with care, and a flavour profile that rewards the curious drinker.
When you brew a B.O.R coffee, you're not just drinking India. You're drinking the parts of India that most people haven't discovered yet.
That's our edge. That's our mission.
What's Coming Next
We have new special lots arriving soon from all three regions — Assam, Meghalaya, and Odisha. Each will be released in limited quantities with full traceability information: farm, altitude, varietal, process, and harvest date.
Follow us for drop announcements. These won't last long.
